Erik Jones scored his first career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series pole when he claimed the top spot for Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Jones turned a lap of 128.082 mph to earn the number one starting position for Saturday night’s race.
“It’s awesome to get your first pole in the series, but to get it at Bristol, whoo,” Jones said.
“We had a good week last week. We’ve done a good job of keeping the momentum going so far. Hoping for a good day tomorrow night. Obviously, real excited to get the race going now and see what we can do.”
Kyle Larson, last week’s Michigan winner, will start outside the front row.
Kasey Kahne, Chase Elliott and Matt Kenseth rounded out the top five.
Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, Clint Bowyer and Ryan Blaney completed the first ten qualifiers.
The Furniture Row Racing rookie topped the field in Friday’s qualifying session and will lead the field to green in Saturday night’s 24th race of the 2017 season.
Other notables in the field include Brad Keselowski (17th), Kyle Busch (18th), Jimmie Johnson (21st), Kevin harvick (29th) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (31st).
Timmy Hill was the only driver to not qualify for Saturday’s race.
Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race is set to take the green flag at 7:30 p.m. ET.
