Jimmie Johnson was honored for winning his seventh Sprint Cup Series championship during Friday night’s annual awards banquet at the Wynn Las Vegas.

The championship was not only a historic one, but it was also the last under the Sprint banner, which served as the series sponsor (Sprint/Nextel) since 2004.

VP for Sprint Steve Gaffney presented the final Sprint Cup trophy to Johnson, who tied Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt for the most series titles.

“I might have won as many championships as Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt, but I will never be ‘The King’ or “The Intimidator,'” Johnson said. “I’m just a guy from California who always wanted to race.”

Johnson is the only driver to win the championship in both the 10-race Chase and the elimination style format.
