There’s a quarterback controversy brewing in Jacksonville.

Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne saw some action with the first-team offense against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, after Blake Bortles turned in another less than stellar performance.

Jacksonville head coach Doug Marrone stated after the contest that there’s an open competition for the role.

Bortles went 3-for-5 for 16 yards in Jacksonville’s preseason opener and followed that up by going 8-of-13 for just 65 yards against the Bucs. Henne came in late in the first half and then started the third quarter with the first-team offense after all four of Bortles’ possessions resulted in punts.

Henne didn’t seem like a real threat to claim the starting role this offseason, though Bortles’ grasp on the job now seems anything but secure. Jaguars executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin, who rejoined the organization in January, did not draft Bortles and the team could cut ties with him after this season.

Bortles has struggled with turnovers during his first three seasons in the league, throwing 51 interceptions in 46 games over that span.
