Major League Baseball released its schedule for the 2018 season Tuesday, and things will get underway a little earlier than anticipated.
Opening Day is set for Thursday, March 29, marking the earliest start date for a season in a North American ballpark. The 2008 and 2014 seasons started March 25 and March 22, respectively, though those early games were played overseas in Japan and Australia.
As well as starting the season earlier, all 30 clubs will also begin play on the same date, abandoning the two-day Opening Day format used in recent seasons. It’s the first time since 1968 that the season will kick off for every team on one day, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
Opening Day games:
Jackie Robinson Day is scheduled for April 15, while the MLB draft will commence June 4. The All-Star Game, set for Nationals Park in Washington, will be played on July 17.
