The University of Houston have kicked left-handed ace Seth Romero off of the team after a sequence of undisclosed violations, the team announced Wednesday.
“Due to an event Tuesday,” a statement released by the University of Houston written by Cougar’s head coach Todd Whitting read, “along with previous conduct detrimental to the team, Seth Romero has been removed from the Houston Baseball program.”
Romero had been suspended by the team in early April as well, for violating team rules. The latest transgression and Romero’s subsequent release “stems from a fight during batting practice on Tuesday,” sources told Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.com.
Romero is projected to go in the first round of the upcoming draft and is ranked as the third-best left-handed pitcher in the draft, according to MLB.com. The 21-year-old may see his draft stock sink while teams are just a month away from making their selections, though scouts swoon over his fastball and slider, which are both plus offerings.
